FAQs

Can you help my headaches?

Yes we can. The way our teeth meet is related to the way our muscles and bones work. In removing interfering contacts, the teeth can meet well and muscle tension can be reduced. Headaches, neck ache and tinglings in the arm disappear following treatment.

Do you offer teeth whitening?

Yes, we do. We use a high quality whitening agent. We have bleaching trays made to fit the teeth and hold the whitening agent. The small trays are worn overnight to whiten the teeth. This usually takes about 1 week.

Can you help my clicking jaw?

Yes. When there are interferences in the way our teeth meet, there can be unequal forces on the jaw joint which can cause a click. Using conservative techniques these forces can be equilised to reduce or eliminate the clicking.

Do you use mercury fillings?

No, we do not use amalgam filling material. We prefer the look of tooth-coloured material and its handling properties. We are also aware that there are controversies concerning possible health risks with amalgam and would therefore prefer not to use it.

Is there a particular tooth paste you would recommend?

Not especially. We recommend in most cases that you use a toothpaste with Fluoride in it. Children under 6 years should use the formulation for their age. Sensitive toothpastes can be helpful in some circumstances and we would be happy to discuss this with you.

Dental Emergencies

What should I do if I have a toothache?

If the ache is constant and throbbing, please take some painkillers and contact us as soon as you are able to. If the ache is when you are eating and only lasts for a minute, please contact us for a convenient appointment. If it is an occasional twinge, please keep a note of where and when it occurs so that we can establish the cause at your next check up.

I’ve broken a tooth, what should I do?

If it is not visible and is not sensitive or painful, please contact us for a convenient appointment. If it is unsightly or painful, please telephone the practice so that we can arrange to see you as soon as possible.

I’ve knocked out a front tooth, what should I do?

If it is an adult tooth, PICK IT up by the crown (the part you recognise), LICK IT if the root is dirty and STICK IT back where it came from. Don’t worry if it doesn’t go in all the wayor the tooth is the wrong way round; call us immediately and we will assess the damage and usually place a splint on the tooth for a few weeks. DO NOT attempt to put a baby tooth back in place.
